Deploying Search Dogs

Although Search dogs are not always needed, when they are, they are invaluable. They assist us in putting the puzzle together by giving us information we otherwise would not have. “Walk up finds” are rare, however the K-9s will help us build a profile of your lost pet. They can show us areas of interest or even certain patterns that might give us clues as to where your pet might be. They might even find articles left behind by your pet. Like a collar, leash or a tuff of fur stuck to a fence as your pet passed by and even scat left behind by your pet which gives us even more clues as to what your pet might be ingesting, thus giving us ideas of possible food sources.

Search dogs can also be used for scent checks. This is a very important job for our dogs. A scent check is when you have gotten a sighting but are not sure if it was your pet. With a viable scent article, our dogs can tell us if there is scent there or not. Being able to rule out areas helps to narrow our search and keeps you on the right track.

Our K-9s are hands on trained, by Michelle, the Founder of EAR. She has an extensive background in training trailing dogs and has trained multiple trailing dogs that have successful careers in Search work.
