EPIC FIRST RESPONSE CHECK LIST

These tips will help expedite your pet’s recovery.

Please implement these immediately.

  • Report to Animal Control in local and surrounding counties. Visit the shelter in person and be sure to look at stray intakes online. Some shelters only hold strays for 72 hours.

  • Is your pet microchipped? Alert the chip company.

  • Alert Veterinarian offices & local law enforcement.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA; Post on Lost & Found pet pages, NextDoor, neighborhood FaceBook page, PawBoost, Craigslist, Neighbors App (BY RING)

  • SIGNS! Keep your signs large, bright and simple! Signs should be hung in a 3-5 mile radius. Signs are the best way to generate sightings!

  • Complete the LOST PET FORM, on our website. (epicanimalrecovery.org). An EPIC Team member will contact you as soon as possible.

  • GRILL! Fire up your grill!! Food smell will help lure your pet home. BACON is the best!

  • !!STOP!! Do not spray anything on the ground!! Take into consideration the safety of all animals that might ingest whatever your concoction might be on or soak into.. Rocks, etc…. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR THAT ANIMAL. Keep your concoction up high on trees etc. The smell will carry farther this way.

  • SCENT CIRCLE & SCENT TRAILS. Check out our graphics for more information on how to use scent in your favor!! 1st 24 hours

  • SCENT ARTICLE: Our dogs will need to know what they are looking for. Do you have something w/ your pet’s scent on it? Try to find something specific to the lost pet. DO NOT HANDLE WITH YOUR BARE HANDS! Secure a scent article by placing in a ziplock bag or unscented trash bag. Bag each item SEPARATELY. Keep away from heat sources. (Including the sun).

As a Lost Pet Recovery team, we specialize in assisting with the recovery of lost pets. This means we work in conjunction with you to recover your lost pet. Your lost pet is part of your family. We understand this. We will provide you the level of support that it will take for the safe recovery of your pet. This could be a multitude of techniques. Our plan is created specifically for your situation and the behavior of your pet. Anything from designing signs for your sign campaign, humane trapping, to phone coaching, to the use of our search dogs. Our dogs are highly trained trailing and detection dogs that assist in providing you with a more focused action plan. Please understand that the search dogs are a major part of the recovery process and give us information that we otherwise would not have. But we do not expect to just walk up to your pet. “Walk up finds” are amazing when they happen, but it is rare. Expectations must remain realistic. As a lost pet owner, you are the primary player on the team and it is imperative that you are involved in all aspects of the recovery efforts. Therefore, your phone number will be used on the signs so that you can immediately respond as needed. You are not alone in this!! We are partners!!…
