See a Loose/Lost Animal?
Here are some BASIC tips, if you see a loose animal….
Please use good judgement, keeping yourself and the animal safe.
Remain calm with a smile on your face. Pets CAN read facial expressions.
DO NOT CHASE or call out.
Sit or lie down & keep movements slow and nonthreatening.
Do not make direct eye contact or direct advancement. Keep the pet to your side, giving it a chance to relax and approach you.
CALMING SIGNALS: Try calming signals such as licking/smacking lips, yawning, eyes blinking & turning head away (just to name a few)
If the pet comes to you, secure it immediately and knock on doors of homes nearby. It might belong to someone!! If you cannot get the animal, report to your local Animal Services, take a picture and post where appropriate. If you are not able to get hands on the pet, then call the proper authorities to help get the pet to safety.
Report any animals found to Animal Services and have them scanned for a microchip.
Please do not relocate any animal. This can be detrimental to the safety of the animal.
