Scent Trails… “Follow your nose, It always knows..”

Scent Trails are one of many tricks we use to help guide your lost pet to a target area. It is kind of like leaving an invisible bread crumb trail for your pet to follow. Most animals use their sense of smell to sniff out food or other animals, but in this case, we are gonna lead them home!

Animals and humans alike are constantly leaving scent trails. Anywhere you go, your scent will follow. We use this to our advantage when luring a lost pet to a target area. We do this by creating scent strips from the pet’s favorite human’s worn/dirty clothing. This is done within a certain period of time prior to the pet possibly going into “survival mode”. This will differ and be unique to each situation. These strips are then strategically placed in areas to get your pet’s attention and bring them to the target area, where there might be a trap set or a food station w/ a camera. Again, each situation is unique and will differ depending on the situation..

Above, you will see a diagram for the SCENT CIRCLE. This shows where to hang the strips. Create a large perimeter around the target area and then from each direction, (N, S, E & W) hang the strips going towards the target area.

Scent trails are a proven strategy for pet recovery. You might be asking does this work on animals other than dogs.. ABSOLUTELY!! And depending on the animal, you might use something other than clothes. Sometimes it takes a bit of creativity and thinking outside of the box to out wit these pets.
